I love the Georgia Lottery. For one thing, it is one of the most successfully run operations in the country, with lots of good games…and a great beneficiary program.
Georgia is one of those states that gives college scholarships to state residents (with some stipulations) if they go on to Georgia colleges. If you live in Georgia and you’re reading this, check out their web site for more details.
Georgia also seems to produce an inordinate number of deserving winners.
Latest I’ve run across is a salesman named Percival Robertson, of Decatur, Ga., who played a Quick Pick ticket and matched all five winning numbers in the Oct. 25 Fantasy 5 drawing and won a $422,075 top prize.
Robertson bought the ticket at a convenience store, Quick Mart, in Decatur. Winning numbers iwere: 8-21-29-38-39.
He realized he had a lucky ticket after calling the Georgia Lottery’s Player Information Hot Line to check his numbers.
“I was pretty excited,” he said.
To say the least.
“I said to myself, ‘Hey, this prize will take me someplace.’ ”
Robertson, 66, and his wife, Jackie, consider themselves big winners. Anticipating early retirement next year, Robertson has a list of plans. Among them is to pay off his home mortgage, he shared.
We wish him a happy and healthy retirement.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $10.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 940,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program.
By the Numbers:
There were no Mega Millions jackpot winners on Tuesday, so the jackpot rises to $62 million on Friday. The winning numbers were 5,27,38,42, 55 and the Mega Ball was 41.
Tonight’s Powerball jackpot is $32 million.
I’ll certainly be playing.
Good luck to everyone.
