Santa Claus Cashes in on $198,000 Georgia Lottery Game

Ronald Page’s sleigh is loaded with cash these days. Page, who annually dresses as Santa Claus and visits local charitable organizations, is one of two players each to win $198,753 in the Jan. 24 Fantasy 5 drawing.

Somewhere in the North Pole, the real-bearded Santa must be rejoicing.

“It’s amazing,” exclaimed Page, who is 64.

Page bought the winning Quik Pik ticket at Hickory Flat Chevron, in Woodstock. Georgia.

The great-grandfather of six intended to watch the televised drawing but fell asleep before time. He awoke early the next morning and called the Georgia Lottery’s Player Information Hot Line, where he discovered his prize.

“I woke my wife. That was the first thing I did,” he told Lottery officials. “When I told her, she started crying.”

Page and his wife, Betty, have portrayed Santa and Mrs. Claus at their Canton home for 13 years. Each holiday season the couple offer tours of their Christmas-themed house and a chance to see “Santa.” Married 47 years, the couple have four adult children and eight grandchildren.

“We do it to help the community,” he shared. “We do it to make people happy.”

Outside of the holiday season, Page has worked for a local hardware store as a sales associate for about 20 years.

Since winning the lottery, Page anticipates retiring from his job at the hardware store and paying off his home mortgage.
