Heavy Equipment Supervisor in Virginia Wins Large $830,000 Prize

Robert Butcher of Mineral, Virginia, was sitting in front of the television set on a quiet night, idly scratching a Virginia Lottery ticket. What he revealed on the ticket came as a great surprise.

He put on his glasses to get a better look.

The Win For Life Scratcher ticket was a top prize winner. Butcher had a choice of receiving $1,000 per week for the rest of his life or a one-time cash option of $830,000. Butcher chose the cash option.

Butcher, who works as a heavy equipment supervisor, told Virginia Lottery officials that he intends to save the winnings for retirement “ and play a little golf.
