Lucky Number 7? 77 Year Old California Retiree Wins $37 Million Playing SuperLotto Plus

California retiree Mitsuko Higashi, a 77 year old retired hospital worker played a quick pick for the April 4 SuperLotto Plus draw, and won $37 million.

She will take the cash, she told Lottery officials. That comes to about $21.2 million. Not bad.

She took the money on April 6.

Higashi told Lottery officials she’s been playing regularly for 25 years, always buying her tickets at Las Lomas Market & Gas in Salinas, Cal.,

She was too sick to go out Saturday, but sent her daughter to buy $3 worth of Quick Picks.

Let’s see now, when does 3 equal 37,000,000?

She learned she’d won Monday morning when she checked the newspaper for the winning numbers.

When she learned she won, “I thought I lost my mind,” she said.

She described the experience as like being doused with a bucket of ice water.

She said she knows what she wants to do with the winnings.

“I’m going to take care of my family,” she said.

Now, wouldn’t we all do that?

The April 8 Powerball jackpot is a hefty $125 million.

Because there were no winners in the April 7 Mega Millions, that jackpot is nearing the $100 million mark. The April 10 draw is $90 million.

Good luck everyone.
