Let us now proceed to Staten Island, New York, near where I grew up on Long Island.
Here, a dude named Joseph Curry, an electrician, charged up his family bank account when he won $1 million from the New York State Lottery.
Staten Island’s latest lottery winner was announced Wednesday tduring a press event held in Madison Square Garden, Manhattan.
Curry said he’s going to spend his winnings taking his family to Disney World. But more important, he plans on installing central air conditioning in his family’s home.
Good idea when you live in New York’s metropolitan area. Gets kinda hot in the summer.
An electrician for Local Union No. 3, Curry won his prize via the New York Poker Game scratch-offs. He purchased the winning ticket on April 3 and claimed it April 5.
“It’s just like Christmas morning,” Curry said of the win. The 46-year-old had actually traded in a $10 Mother’s Day ticket and used that to purchase the Poker scratch-off.
“It was great. I didn’t spend any of my own money and won a million dollars!” he said.
“I signed the ticket first thing and called my wife. I brought it to another store to make sure it was the real thing and they told me to call the Lottery. That’s when I knew it was real.”
He will receive his prize in installments of $50,000 — $31,091 after taxes, through 2029.
