Unemployment Compensation Runs Out…. Player Wins $1,000,000 Playing Oregon Lottery’s Raffle

The lottery gods work in strange ways. Sometimes.
Take Megan Gatlin, 28, unemployed.
Megan is a former in-home health-care worker whose unemployment had run out.
So what does she do for the helluva it? Buys five Oregon Lottery St. Patrick’s Day Raffle tickets in North Portland.

Now, the Vancouver resident is $670,040  (the prize after taxes) richer and not sure what she will do next, other than go to college someday and maybe work in the medical field.

Luckily for her, Gatlin has enough money to think about it for a while.

At the moment, she’s planning on buying a house and a BMW, her dream car, first.

Though she knew days after the March 17 winning number announcement that she had won, she “freaked out” and waited 26 days before driving the ticket to the Lottery’s offices in Salem and claiming her prize.

“I wanted to let it all sink in and figure out what I should do with the money,” she said.

Though Gatlin has a lot of choices to make about her future, she has decided one thing, for sure. She’s going to do some shopping.

“A lot of shopping,” she said.

Good for you, girl.

I would too.

Wouldn’t you?
