So John Barron III of Norfolk, St. Lawrence County, New York, buys a Powerball ticket.
The ticket is worth $1 million.
But Barron does not know it.
Here is the rest of the story: The 54-year-old claimed his prize at the Lottery’s Syracuse Customer Service Center on June 3rd, more than a month after he purchased the winning ticket.
I found my ticket tucked inside a folded playcard, recounted Barron. It was a shocker, to say the least!
A poker room supervisor at the Akwesasne Indian Casino, Barron said he’s not the kind that checks the winning numbers after each drawing.
I’ve been busy with home renovations, he explained. It wasn’t until I went to get my playcard to use it again that I saw the ticket in there. Even then, Barron said he was unaware of his good fortune.
I scanned my ticket [at a Lottery retailer] and I saw “BIG WINNER’ and thought I won maybe $50.
More like $1 million.
Check your tickets everyone, before throwing them away, or putting them away to check another day. Check. Check. Check.
