Persistence Pays Off ($200,000) for North Carolina Couple

To Ted and Ida Hicks, five plus five adds up to $200,000.

The Mooresville, North Carolina couple has been playing Powerball every week for five years since it came to North Carolina in 2006.

Last Wednesday, they won $200,000 when their ticket matched all five white balls in the July 13 Powerball drawing. Ted Hicks said that, upon realizing the size of the prize he won, the store clerk ran from behind the counter to give him a hug.

She was very excited, Hicks explained. Ted and Ida Hicks each received a check for $68,000, after taxes were withheld. They said their initial plans for their winnings were to deposit them in the bank right away. Ted purchased the winning ticket in Winston-Salem, N.C..
