When does bad coffee lead to a winning lottery ticket?

Ask Thomas Whittle of Spotsylvania, Virginia.

It seems he went for a cup of joe at his usual location, but it didn’t taste very good.

That was grounds for him to drive to a different location.

His search took him to a gas station-convenience stop in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Along with the coffee, he bought four Virginia Lottery Scratcher tickets.

When he scratched the tickets, he discovered that with one of them, a Serious Folding Money ticket, he had won $100,000.

I was dumbfounded! he said.

I nearly fell out of the car!

He then put the ticket in the safest place at hand: the trunk of his car.

We salute Whittle, a 26-year Army veteran who now works in education.

He  said he has no immediate plans for his winnings.
