Michele Svoboda and her fiancee, Scott Pelton, have the clerk at a local convenience store to thank for a $500,000 win “ with taxes paid “ on a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket.
The couple won the first of four $500,000 taxes-paid prizes on the Lottery’s $3 Million Taxes Paid game.
Svoboda, 46, had gone into a store in St. Peters, Missouri, to redeem a winning “St. Louis Blues” instant game, when she decided to try her luck on another game.
At such moments… good things sometimes happen.
The clerk had told me they had a couple of people who won $1,000 on it, she shared, when asked what drew her to the $3,000,000 Taxes Paid game.
She scratched the ticket in her car on the way to work, unaware of what was about to unfold.
I thought it was a $500 prize at first, and I was excited with that, she said. I kept scratching, and I guess the last exciting thing was that it’s taxes paid!
Svoboda drove on to work and everyone at the office was freaking out as she tried to reach her fiancé by phone to share the good news.
Together for seven years, she said it took Pelton looking at the ticket to actually believe it.
He did drive as fast as he could to come pick me up, though, she added with a laugh.
Among the ideas considered for dipping into their prize money, Svoboda noted a trip, buying a house or a condo and helping the four kids the couple has between them.
$3,000,000 Taxes Paid” is a $20 game that offers a top prize of $3 million and a second prize of $500,000 “ taxes paid.
