The early bird may catch the worm, but lucky Ralph Landrette of Bristol, Conn., recently nabbed something just a little bit tastier.

I was watching the 5 o’clock morning news on TV with a cup of coffee and my Cash5 tickets for the Sunday drawing.  I normally play my family’s birthday numbers, but (Sunday) I decided to get a “Quick Pick’ ticket, too, Landrette said.  When I saw my Quick Pick numbers go by on the news tickerit was a shock!  I knew I won $100,000.

I always told my wife, “One of these day’s I’m going to hit the big one,’ but she never believed me, said Landrette with a laugh.  When I woke her up and told her that we won $100,000, she thought I was joking.

After sharing the news with his wife, Landrette took his ticket to a lottery retailer to have it scanned and verified, and then promptly headed to Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill to claim a prize check for $68,300 (prize value after taxes).
