A Tallapoosa, Georgia man has collected a hefty prize from the Georgia Lottery just days after accepting a new job. Joshua Holdbrooks, 34, won a $377,777 top prize playing the instant game Lady Luck 7.
It’s been a magical week, said the lucky winner, who accepted a new job with Georgia Power. It’s a new start for us.
Holdbrooks, a mechanical contractor, said he accepted his new position just four days before claiming his prize.
I worked all day, and a buddy of mine wanted to take a look at work boats, he said. I was thirsty and wanted something to drink, so we stopped for a Mountain Dew. And then he bought a ticket.
I almost passed out, Holdbrooks recalled. I was scratching as I walked out of the store. I saw the matching No. 21.
The father of two young boys wanted to call his wife, Meagan, to share the good news but first called his dad.
We met up between Carrollton and Rome, and we bear hugged in the grass, he said. It was the best day in a long time, and I’m still trying to soak it all in.
Thankful for the windfall, Holdbrooks anticipates paying off bills and having a college fund for his sons, ages 5 and 1.
We’re going to buy a new house and plan for our 10th wedding anniversary, he added, ecstatically.
